K.E. Clemm writes historical fiction and fantasy, consistently drawn to stories that lay bare the complexities of the human experience. Her characters struggle with life’s unpleasant realities, with themes of deep family dysfunction, sexual violence, and addiction as they attempt to escape the prisons of their past and follow their dreams. Clemm’s work combines deep character dives, meticulous research, and imaginative storytelling, exploring themes that often reveal the darkest sides of human nature.

Whether breathing life into a particular time and place in history, or using myth and fantasy to expose universal yearnings, Clemm is fascinated by the choices people make when crippled by the circumstances of their childhoods, and the many ways looking over one’s shoulder causes one to stumble on their path forward. She believes the best stories reveal truths of the human condition, no matter the setting.

When she’s not writing, Clemm enjoys traveling to new places, diving into historical archives, exploring music, fashion, and art histories, and discovering the forgotten details that inspire her next story. She is currently at work on new fiction to include a Southern family saga series, and fantasy short stories and flash fiction.
